Born in St Thomas, Jamaica, at the tender age of ten, Lenny played his first record on Duke Reid Sound System, giving him a taste the buzz you get from playing to an audience.
Lenny Ranks came to the UK in 1965, and attended Peckham Boys School.of Soon after arriving, he had his first experience of a Brixton Dance Party, with the Uniss Sound system, and went on to listen to the likes of Coxanne, Suckle and never looked back.
In 1979 Lenny met up with Sussy Ranks and Curly B, who introduced him to Galaxy Radio, where he went on to play for two and a half years. Then a session with radio rising DJ Robbie Rass ecouraged Lenny even more.
From then on, after managing Black Wax Sound System in the early 80's and along with regular DJ work and the sound system, Super Calssic UK1, Lenny Ranks was in demand, playing at parties Shebeens, house parties, clubs and private events.
More radio work was to follow, including a 2 year stay at Lightening Radio, 5 years at Vibes, 6 months at Prestees, 2 1/2 years at Roots and to RJR (98.3)where he plays today.
