The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD)

The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) is a national organisation that supports the practice and appreciation of dance of the African Diaspora.

ADAD has a unique role, working on behalf of talented dance artists who are part of the African Diaspora, to support their development and raise the profile of their work.

Trailblazer Fellowships

Announcing the Winners of the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) Trailblazer Fellowships 2009/10.
Annette Walker, Ithalia Forel, H Pattern and Alesandra Seutin have been selected as the four winners of ADAD's Trailblazer's Fellowship for 2009/10. Each has been awarded a bursary of £2000.

ADAD supports artists working with dance forms from the African Diaspora at every stage of their career. Our goal is for artists to be plugged into a thriving regional, national and international network. The annual Trailblazer fellowships provide financial support for four artists to do specific projects, but also take a holistic approach including life-coaching, mentoring and peer support.

Since 2003, the fellowship has supported 30 individuals who are championing dance of the African Diaspora including Bawren Tavaziva ,Jane Sekonya, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, and Ukachi Akalawu.

ADAD recognises the many challenges that exist for artists in the APD sector and by administering this fellowship, it is not only responding to these challenges by creating opportunities for continuing professional development, but in doing so, fulfilling its mission to support the practice and raise the profile of dance practices with origins in African and Caribbean cultures.

ADAD Director, Jeanette Bain says: "This year's Trailblazers are a talented group with outstanding leadership potential. They represent African, Contemporary, Caribbean, Rhythm Tap, and an eclectic blending of Contemporary and Afro dance forms. The scheme continues to provide well-needed support for diverse artists from across the UK, with this year's fellows representing Liverpool and London"
