AUDI CABRIOLET
What's so special about the Audi Cabriolet? Syrita Explains.
Sinking into the sumptuous leather seat, I threw my baby into fourth gear, pressed the pedal to the floor, off I shot. Inertia gripped me, I saw the other traffic whizzing away in a stream of colours, I could hear the mission impossible theme tune and I realised I just might be driving into next week, leaving everything else behind, like some lone, time traveller.

The interior of the Audi convertible is as neat and sleek as the outside. It’s like sitting in your sofa with everything you need just in reach - the gears are short and snappy, dashboard and dials flawless. Mirror and window switches right under your index finger. No over-kill here either. I've just had it a week and already I am in love. It's a great ladies car. The two litre engine means it has that all important kick, that would allow me, should I ever feel the need, to indulge in a 120mph high speed James Bond style chase So it's fast, user friendly and with the roof down, a ravishing beauty. Ok, so it's not ideal for the frosty English weather, but summer will be busting loose before you know it and convertibles are always the first on the list when we ladies think of cars to floss in. (Oversized shades wrapped around our face, extensions blowing in the wind, you get the picture).
That said, the Audi cabriolet is a nimble, fast machine great for zipping around the urban jungle, as well as on the motorway and off road. I first considered buying one last summer, and after test driving its competitors; the convertible 3 series BMW, and Saab 93, I decided the Audi won hands down on speed, style and comfort. It drives like a Mercedes (but at half the price), when you go over 60mph, it feels like your flying, and unlike the ubiquitous BMW, it doesn't seem at all generic. You still feel special in the Audi, the body has great lines. Rounded bumpers give it that space-age look. Like a speed capsule, in British racing green. Fuel consumption is very forgiving (I always felt sorry for a dear friend of mine with the new SL500, who daily pays the price for driving such a sporty beast, and can see the needle on his petrol gauge going down every time he moves from 'park' into 'drive').
Despite the success and popularity of this model, Audi will never rest on its laurels. The car giant, have come good again, with the new model A4 Cabriolet. It hasn't let us down, the new improved version has all the features my model has, but enhanced - by a power of 10. The designers resisted the temptation to move too far away from the original shape, and ruin its classic beauty. The new A4 is rounder, faster and more efficient. I can see myself upgrading in a year's time. Why not nip down to you local dealership and cop a test drive of this baby. You won't be disappointed.
