The Black Londoners' Forum (BLF) has tonight welcomed the Science Museum's decision to cancel Dr. James Watson's talk, which was scheduled to take place this Friday 19 October.

The decision follows mounting pressure and concerns from anti-racism campaigners, equality organisations and members of the scientific community at Dr. Watson's racist views about his perceived 'hierarchy of intelligence of the races'.

The 79-year-old American was due to talk at the Science Museum's Dana Centre on Friday but tonight a spokesman said Dr Watson's comments had gone "beyond the point of acceptable debate"

Eroll Walters, interim Director of BLF commented:

'We of course welcome the decision, but the Science Museum should not have invited Dr. Watson in the first place and it shows a serious error of judgement on their part. Dr. Watson's views have no place in this country and irrespective of his Nobel Prize-winning status, tonight's decision has sent out a clear message that London will not tolerate racism parading as science.'

Professor Emeritus Geoff Palmer Doctor of Science, FRSM Watson, like other scientists who have contempt for the principles of science and human dignity believe that a White-backed reputation is there to be made by attributing a genetic cause to social differences between races. There is no valid scientific evidence for Watson's dangerous Hitler-style propaganda. Any politician that devises social policy on such racist advice will regret the consequences.

Watson is a spent force in science. Making outrageous statements against Black people will not revitalise his reputation. What is now clear is that the success of the Watson/Crick partnership must have been heavily based on the "better intelligence" of Crick. This difference in intelligence within one race should have informed our good Dr Watson that intelligence is variable within human beings and that there is no evidence that genetic factors have a greater influence on the results of White-based intelligence tests than environmental factors such as social depravation and racial prejudice.

Finally...present the experimental evidence in support of what you propose Dr Watson, or shut up to save the tarnished reputation you now have.
