Reggae's most iconic figure, Bob Marley was the first Jamaican artist to achieve international superstardom and has remained a huge figure in the music world. His appeal was universal and his impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled.
Bob Marley was born on February 6th, 1945. His father was an army officer Norval St. Clair Marley and his mother a Jamaican grocer Cedella Malcolm.
He spent his early life in Nine Mile, a village in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. Today visitors can go there and learn more about Bob Marleys life and impact on the world at the

In 1966 Marley married soul singer Rita Anderson, a member of The Soulettes and later the I-Threes, together they have five children.
In 1973 Bob Marley and the Wailers released Catch a Fire which was their first album to released outside of Jamaica, and a few years later Marley was awarded the International Peace Medal by the African delegation to the United Nations in 1978.
He Survived an assassination attempt in 1976.
His posthumously released anthology collection "Legend" is one of the highest selling "greatest hits" recordings by a solo artist.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Died of cancer May 11, 1981 in Miami's Cedars of Lebanon Hospital.
