CARIBBEAN CARNIVALS
Grenada Carnival Spice Mas
Next Carnival: 10th August 2010
The Tri-Island State of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique Carnival Spice Mas, is celebrated every year in August, is one the the islands largest events.
Carnival fever starts in July, Calypso Tents with local calypso artists performing for a chance to compete at the National Calypso Monarch Competition.
Throughout the weeks leading to the Carnival celebration, the sounds of steel bands can be heard throughout the islands, as they rehearse for the Panorama competition. Hundreds of Devil masqueraders, popularly known as Jab Jab masqueraders take to the streets in St. George's, and surrounding parishes for J'Ouvert.
Grenada Carnival initially preceded Lent, until 1981 when it was moved to the new August date, today it is one the Summer highlights throughout the Caribbean.
Don't miss the Grenada Carnival experience.
