St Clement and St James Carnival Band

St Clement and St James Carnival Band

St Clement and St James Carnival Band is based near Latimer Road and is one of the few remaining children’s bands that helps the children design and make their own costumes for display at Notting Hill Carnival and other events.

St Clement and St James Carnival Band is unique as the children design and make the costumes THEMSELVES throughout the summer holidays! The theme the students chose this year is ‘Out of Africa!’ celebrating two hundred years since the abolition of the slave trade. The students will design and make costumes based around the traditional tribes of Africa in just four weeks.

The summer workshops are available to students aged 7-18 years old during the summer holidays. Within these workshops the children learn traditional Soca dance, attend workshops at Leighton House Museum, compete in the Grand Carnival Splash Event at Alexandra Palace and make their own costumes to display at Notting Hill Carnival. Registration is just ten pounds, which includes all of the daily activities and a costume on the day.
