Chef Hassan De Four
Trinidadian born chef Hasan Defour has spent the past decade catering for all types of events, for all kinds of themes, for all denominations of people, his passion for food, and Caribbean food in particular has caused him to be a known personality within the
Caribbean community in the UK.
Growing up in
east Trinidad, Hasan's love of food was nutured by his mother's inventive combinations, as well as living within one of the most culturally diverse islands in the Caribbean. Hasan always looked forwad to the many festivals and celebrations in order to sample the countless dishes served from the giant melting pot that is Trinidad and Tobago.
Moving to the UK as a teenager, Hasan became
professionally trained as a chef, experimenting and learning about the many cuisines of the world; he always had the belief that Caribbean food was under-rated, under exposed and at times misrepresented. For over a decade Hasan has continuously pushed Caribbean food
through his catering business and being involved in West Indian events.
Recently Hasan was chosen to travel across the Caribbean with
celebrity chef Gary Rhodes for his latest and most anticipated
TV series 'Rhodes Across the Caribbean', cooking the region's best dishes with some of the Caribbean's most respected chefs. Following this eye opening experience, Hasan's determination to help Caribbean food become a much more respected cuisine has strengthened.
"I believe that Caribbean culture, and our food in particular, is so exciting, vibrant, and offers so much diversity. Critics describe our food as unrefined, so it is up to us to raise the standard without compromising quality, flavour and most of all, authenticity. We have all the components to get to the level that other types of food have and my goal is to achieve that."
