Chyna Whyne

Born and raised in South London, Chyna discovered her voice singing in church at the age of 3. At the age of 17, drawing from her Jamaican roots, she made her singing debut with the Reggae band SilkTones.

Moving on from her initial style, she spent some time singing with African jazz bands and eventually met with Peter Gabriel who introduced her to the world of rock. Chyna sang on his 'SO' album which included the Grammy Award winning song 'Sledgehammer'. Soon after she had a top ten hit with 'Roadblock', produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman. Chyna later formed a close working relationship with Pete Townsend and teamed up with him to record a duet on his Iron Man album. By this time her obvious talent as a singer/ songwriter had earned her a deal with A&M Records.

In 1989 the very young Chyna toured America with the Who, and on her return formed her own seven-piece band. Singing regularly in clubs, she soon developed a huge underground following. One of her greatest fans at this time was Seal and in 1995 he asked Chyna to support him with her own band on his European Tour.

Not only a gifted singer, Chyna also co-wrote 'Don’t Be A Stranger' which reached number 3 in the British charts, sung by Dianna Carroll.

In 1997 Chyna met and formed a working relationship with Eric Clapton. Eric invited Chyna to sing on his 'Pilgrim' Album, and then requested Chyna to sing in his band on his 1998 world tour.

Chyna's striking looks were not going unnoticed. She was also being asked to model for leading fashion designers, and was the featured model on the front cover of 'Ultimate Pilates - Achieve The Perfect Body Shape', written by Dreas Reyneke. In 1999 Chyna took three years out of her musical and modelling career and studied the Alexander Technique.

After graduating Chyna continued her musical passion and started recording her album 'Sexy Baal-ed', which has a perfect melting pot of styles: Reggae/R&B and Hip Hop. She released the title track 'Sexy Baal-ed, featuring Elephant Man, which was a massive underground hit. Chyna soon linked with the legendary producer General Lee who recorded 'My Sweet Honey/Bumper' courtesy of Sly and Robbie 'Taxi' riddim.

Chyna continues to mesmerize her audiences with live performances such as those at the Brixton Academy, supporting Buju Bantan, the Blacker Dread Brixton Splash, and her electrifying performance at Ocean in London. Chyna also has taken Kingston Jamaica by storm with her dynamic performance at the Weekenz and Quad night clubs.

Chyna's current single 'Love Yourself' is being well received by her audience. She is currently completing her new album with producer General Lee, due out soon.
