East End Film Festival
22nd April -30th April 2010
The East End Film Festival, now in it's 9th year, promises a multi-media frenzy of screenings, parties, live music, talks, film challenges and special events spread across 9 days and nights in East London.
In partnership with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the festival screens features, documentaries and short films alongside talks from big names in the Industry and practical events for filmmakers of all levels. You'll also catch some unusual happenings on the local streets over the course of the festival, including cross-art live events and guerilla artwork from the area's cutting edge artistic talent.
Building on the success of last year's 'East meets East' strand, the festival will be showcasing some of the most exciting new work to emerge from Eastern Europe, with dedicated Polish and Russian programmes, as well as dazzling gems from Asia, an all new deep-South, good old Grits n Gravy American strand, bringing the best US old country tales and music to the East end. As ever, there'll be a strong slate of explosive UK features young and old, and several programmes of the best short films from our very own local emerging talent.
East London will hum to the sound of yesteryear with our specially commissioned strand of archive films harking back to the East End of old. We'll also be getting downright noisy with our music strand - a selection of music documentaries, talks and live events focusing on the many faces of music in film.
Our director in residence this year will be Valeriya Gai Germanika, winner of last year's Best International First Feature Award. At only 24 years old, Valeria wowed the jury and audiences alike with her portrayal of teenage growing pains in a contemporary Moscow suburb. We offer you a second chance to see her incredible debut 'Everybody Dies But Me' as Valeriya heads up a programme of masterclasses, talks and screenings that explore this dynamic 'new wave' in Russian cinema.
The East End Film Festival has its heart in independent filmmaking. From grassroots to Oscar-winners, from memories of the past to visions of the future, from the silent to the very, very loud… if film is your passion, this is your week!
Full details of the 2010 programme will be announced after 22 March 2010. In the meantime, for more information, or to sign up for the Festival newsletter, go to: www.eastendfilmfestival.com
