EDITOR’S NOTE

EDITOR’S NOTE Every now and again, we like to change the face of the magazine so that we continually give the people something different to get their teeth into. Why? Because we can! And, as it’s never been purely Reggae that we cover but, the entire spectrum of Black & Urban Music, in the past, we’ve brought you covers with the likes of Champion boxer Lennox Lewis; beauty pageant model Janelle Raeburn; MOBO’s Kanya King; Trinidad’s versatile starlet Trini (Caryl) Jacobs and Hip-hop’s reigning Duchess Missy ‘Misdemeanour’ Elliott. So, it should come as no real surprise that for this edition, being it’s the Carnival season and all, we give you a whole host of hot Soca artists with Destra, Rupee and Machel Montano fronting! [One-dimensional sceptics eat your heart out!].

Yow, the third landing of the G MaG gives it to them in real festive style with the majority of its articles catering for the Soca/Calypso Carnival junkie who just gots to have their fix at this time of year! Now then, da Soca massive everywhere can positively log on to their favourite artists as we place the spotlight firmly on the aforementioned artisans as well as Terencia ‘TC’ Coward, Maximus Dan, Alison Hinds and Jamesy P. At the same time, folks can get the low down on what’s up wid da scene via the Carnival Soca Motion round up page plus [Capital Radio] Choice FM’s ‘Prince of Soca’ Martin Jay reveals his treasured memories of attending Trinidad & Tobago’s Carnival over the years. The recent Reggae/Soca awards in Miami, USA honoured a host of premier acts including Alison Hinds, Edwin Yearwood, Singing Sandra and Jamesy P. And, we don’t just leave it there… included in the (three-page) football feature is an account of the feat of Trinidad & Tobago’s brave Soca Warriors at the World Cup in Germany plus the Poetry Corner is all about that amazing Carnival experience! Watch we nuh, how we ah get on bad…!

But… aside from the above, catch a dose of some fiery R&B and Hip-hop flavas as the maestros Donell Jones, Jagged Edge and Busta Rhymes drops some crazy missiles all up in da place! Anthony Cruz and Joseph Cotton has the Reggae corner smoked; Onitsha makes her debut in the Gospel section and some real authentic African culture can be found in da African Gold column. We also hit you up with a Quincy Jones profile; a Chicago Blues story; a tribute to Women of Colour; an exhaustive report on New York’s Bashment Dancing scene in an enlightening, extended Lifestyle section; a four page Tennis spread highlighting the phenomenal achievements of the powerful Williams Sisters and Competitions galore!

Yow, watch out for G MaG’s official Launch party on Sunday, 20 August 2006 at Central London’s renowned Moonlighting Club and right after that, da Crew will be down at the Notting Hill Carnival stepping out and doing our thang! Yes, yes y’all, you gots to get you some of da big, bad G MaG ... yuh dun know!
