Top Dj Andy Smith Revives The Greensleeves Collection

The innovative DJ and stalwart of the club scene, Andy Smith is back with some big vibes in the latest series of his Document collection. His forth-coming music master piece The Greensleeves Document sees him twisting up some classic reggae beats from the celebrated UK reggae record label that has served up ground-breaking releases from dub to dancehall and roots to reggae.

This revolutionary mix-CD released on 9 February 2009 and will feature some fierce and funky reggae re-mixes of classic tracks from reggae legends including Wailing Souls, Half Pint, Scientist and Johnny Osbourne. London based MC Brother Culture also makes a guest appearance offering up some of his fine vocal flair throughout this expertly mixed and blended collection from one of the UK's most in demand DJ's

Andy Smith originally made a name for himself on the music scene back in the 1990s when he teamed up with the influential trip-hop outfit Portishead to provide sampling material for their first two albums. Following the success of the albums Smith went on to become the bands international tour DJ, with his hip-hop and scratch beats helping to form the unique elements of the Portishead sound and style.

In 1998 Andy Smith produced his first groundbreaking album The Document. Featuring an amalgam of genre's and artists from Tom Jones and Marvin Gaye to Grand Master Flash it became the originator of the major-label multi-genre mix album, selling over 100,000 copies worldwide. This was followed by the highly acclaimed Document II and III taking sounds and samples from an eclectic foray of hip hop, funk, soul, classic rock ska and reggae.

The Document series proved so popular that Trojan Records (Now under Sanctuary Records) asked Smith to bring his golden touch and revive their back catalogue by releasing a reggae spin-off called The Trojan Document in 2006. Now with the Greensleeves collection, Smith will again take up the roots of reggae, handle with care and mix up a fine collection of classics and crowd pleasers.
