Jewels de Carnaval
Jewels de Carnaval Special Section and Front Line Phenomenon at Notting Hill Carnival.
Private/Special Section is a Carnival section in a major band, it is not a direct part of the band direct camp, but usually a separate group of persons/or person wishing to showcase in a particular band of choice. Most likely it is an all inclusive section where you pay one price and get your carnival costume, specially catered food and drinks. Packages may vary with free give-aways, the type of food and services offered.
The front-line is a costume in any section which may generally have a back pack, larger head-piece and or more adornments or parts and costs more than a 'regular' option, it may also be accompanied by additional freebies. The masquerader is generally entitled to what the special section is offering, in addition to what drinks, food and services the band is offering, but this varies from band to band.
The T&T phenomenon which took over Carnival a few years ago, has hit the Notting Hill Carnival in London with a bang.
Section Leader Bea Thomas who is directly responsible for the development of the new committee, is the driving force behind the development of Jewels de Carnaval has many years of experience within the Carnival arena as an administrator with Arawak Band. Additionally, she has experienced the 'other side of the fence' as a masquerader, portraying an individual costume each year for Notting Hill Carnival and actively participating in the Luton, Reading & Rotterdam, Barbados Crop Over & Trinidad & Tobago Carnivals. She is an avid supporter of Soca/Calypso music and seeks to assist in its promotion whenever an opportunity arises.
Carnival 2010
Jewels de Carnaval will be parading with the band Burrokeets UK, whose presentation for 2010 is entitled Renaissance.
This theme pays tribute to the past 20yrs of portrayals by Burrokeets UK, with each section this year drawing on a past theme, enhancing, modernising and refreshing it.
Jewels de Carnaval settled on the portrayal of 'Hands on Deck' which was Burrokeets UK band of 1999.
As 'Hands On Deck' immediately draws one's mind to the vision of the sea, sailors, ships, cruises, and other mythical creatures and stories that can be found, OCEANIA was born.
OCEANIA is the term most commonly applied to the islands in and around the Pacific region such as Christmas Islands, Cook Islands, Samoa, Hawaii, French Polynesia and Easter Islands to name a few.
The costumes of OCEANIA, is Jewels de Carnaval's creative, modern interpretation of these idyllic pictures conjured up when one thinks of taking a cruise to say Hawaii .
Jewels de Carnaval Oceania is undoubtedly sexy, appealing and even risqué, for indeed, some of us do like that bit of adventure and a touch of mischief on a holiday far away, even taking on a new persona, being reborn as it were.
For the women, you can transform yourself into a modern day sea siren or sea nymph, tantalising Neptune or sailors on a passing ship or two. Guys, you are not to be left out, as you put on the costume, feel yourselves transform into the modern day version of the mythical Greek Neptune -God's of the Sea, with the swirling sea nymphs at your side.
