The Surgery is back for 2010!
Hosted by Jonzi D, The Surgery is our regular showcase of new Hip Hop Theatre work.
The Surgery is a platform for emerging and established artists to present new Hip Hop theatre work in a professional theatre space. The unique aspect of the evening is the breaking down of the 'fourth wall' where there is an opportunity after each piece to take questions and comments from the audience.
The March Surgery is produced and presented in association with The Albany, and will take place on Sat 6 March 2010, 7.30pm atThe Albany Douglas Way, Deptford. London SE8.
Tickets £5 available online
We are also really excited to report that with support from The British Council we are bringing over 3 South African emcees to take part in the Surgery. Not only that but we are going to be taking The Surgery to two venues in the north of the UK - the first time the Surgery has gone outside London.
Hip Hop Theatre Labs!!
Join pioneer Jonzi D at our regular
Hip Hop Theatre Labs to explore how the elements of Hip Hop can combine or be developed to create Hip Hop Theatre. Hip Hop Theatre Labs are aimed at Hip Hop artists who are interested in working with other artists and discovering how they can broaden their work and taking it to the next level.
They're not classes where you learn how to dance or MC, or even what theatre is. They provide a space, over seven evening sessions, where Hip Hop artists can come together to improvise, freestyle and share with each other in order to create truly inspired and innovative work. Some of this work is then shown at The Surgery.
It's FREE to take part, so if you're interested in joining the labs, please email a short description of your experience with an outline of the type of work you're involved in by Friday 12 February.
Next sessions will be at The Albany , 6-9.30pm
Thu 25, Fri 26 Feb, Mon 1, Tues 2, Wed 3, Thu 4, Fri 5 Mar 2010
