Joseph "Joe" Charles, also known as "Russlyn" , played with numerous famous soca stars over a 20 year period such as Sparrow, Skunky, Randy Issacs, Calypso Rose and many many more. He was a very well known figure within the the soca / caribbean community playing at numerous venues all over the country with his band Shango such as Hammersmith Palais, Tudor Rose and the Notting Hill Carnival to name but a small few.
In the early days of his musical career he played with the Chart topping band "The Pioneers" who had a top ten hit with the song "Let your yeah, be yeah" of which he appeared on the infamous "Top of the Pops" on the BBC to perform.
After a long, successful and colourful career, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 and after a lengthy battle he passed away on Friday 16th May 2008.
There will be holding a memorial for him on Tuesday 3rd June 2008 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Botwell House, Botwell lane in Hayes Middlesex at 12;00 noon for all of his friends who knew him.
As mentioned above there will be a memorial service for him in England after which he will be taken back home to his beloved Grenada so that he may rest in peace in his country of origin.
