Next Festival: New Years Day 2007
Junkanoo is a national festival in the Bahamas, and the islands unique way of seeing in the New Year. The parade is a feast of costumes, masqueraders and musicians. Among the Junkanoo troupes are the 'Roots' 'Saxons' and 'Valley Boys'. Competition is fierce, with prize money to be won. There is even a museum highlighting Junkanoo culture, showcasing costumes, art and artifacts in downtown Nassau.
Junkanoo parades are also held alongside celebrations including Independence Day on July 10.
