Charismatic artist Lil Wayne "The best rapper alive", will be live at The STRATFORD REX as his European tour hits the shores of England, on SUN 16th March 2008.
As the youngest member of the New Orleans rap quartet The Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne burst onto the hip-hop scene along with Juvenile, Turk, and B.G. Thanks to the success of the group, LW was able to branch out into the solo arena dropping his first album Tha Block in 1999 and following it up in 2000 with Lights Out and 500 Degreez in 2002.
Wayne was initially scheduled to drop his fourth solo venture, Tha Carter in late 2003, but the album was scrapped and he re-entered the studio to re-record it and eventually release it in June of 2004.
Like his fellow Cash Money compadres-Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Baby-Lil' Wayne rolls deep with Southern playa stylistics and high gloss floss. Yet in person he comes off remarkably down-to-Earth and even manages to present a few leftfield surprises (like the fact that he's started his own R&B label) Lil Wayne is currently putting the finishing touches on the long awaited Tha Carter III, scheduled to hit the streets in the near future. Considered the third jewel in hip-hop's most revered trilogy, XXL magazine recently hailed it as the "1 most anticipated record of the year," with Rolling Stone offering a sneak glimpse in their most recent issue of what they and other publications have cited as possibly the "most important hip-hop album of decade."
As excitement builds for his first full length Lil Wayne solo album in 2 years, the prolific artist/writer/producer has been steadily adding to a reign of successes which MTV has called the most 'overwhelming in quality and quantity' of any hip-hop artist working today. "He's hip hop's psychic center" is how Vibe magazine defines him in an unvarnished cover story. In it Lil Wayne reveals for the first time in great detail some of the hardships he endured growing up in the Hollygrove section of New Orleans to become "Rap's (new) leading man." Raves Vibe: "Since the formal announcement of his dominance - Tha Carter (2004) - no MC has been so fierce, so alluring, so present."
The innovative rapper successfully re-routed a batch of leaked sessions from Tha Carter III into another glorious mixtape triumph, Da Drought 3, making it available on the internet. Almost instantaneously, the scalding collection became the hottest online sensation of the year. Hailed by MTV and many other critics as 'the best mixtape of 2007,' Da Drought 3 aptly sets the stage for his 6th signature offering, Tha Carter III, which Lil Wayne has heralded as 'The album I was born to make.'
