Celebrating cultural Carnivals in the UK
Manchester Carnival has brought Caribbean culture to the forefront, annually for over 30 years, and is the North West’s largest celebration of Caribbean music and carnival arts.
Each year the carnival procession leaves Alexandra Park at 1pm and leads down Claremont Road, Lloyd Street, Denmark Road, Chichester Road, past Asda, onto Moss Lane West, then Withington Road, Yarbrough Street and back into Alexandra Park.
Manchester’s Caribbean dance group, Soca Survivors entertain visitors with soca, calypso and reggae. Local musicians Basil Otis and the Mystics, perform with their reggae band mixing of RnB and hip hop.
A huge selection of food stalls, serving up specialities from the local communities, a fairground for the kids, turn Alexandra Park into a fun filled foray from mid day until 7pm.
