Martha Harris died on the 2nd April 2009 at 8.30pm, there will be a thanksgiving service on April 11th 2009, with a recepetion following at the West Indian Cultural Centre in Turnpike Lane.

Many of us were not able to say are farewells to Martha who was a very great woman. Big Peoples Theatre will be organising a tribute to her contribution to the community as her debute in a BBC short film One of those Days will be shown early this September 2009. We congratulated Martha Harris in 2006, when she passed her LAMDA examination with flying colours gaining Distinction in the Prose/Verse section. Martha Harris currently fighting cancer at the tender age of 82 years is one of Big Peoples Theatre eldest student who has gained LAMDA LEVEL 2 in the Prose and Verse last year.

She stared in a BAFTA nominated short film on the BBC. Martha Harris 10 secs screening on her face sets the film.

Martha Harris came to England in 1957 to train as a Nurse. For over 50 years Martha Harris has devoted her time and efforts into raising and adopting children and young people. During an interview with Colourful Radio Martha said that "her age group must keep the love, dedication, commitment, and inspiration to inspire our young people. I always wanted to get into Acting but never had the opportunity. Big Peoples Theatre has really given me a second chance".

Martha has performed at Hackney Empire, Millfield Theatre, Chats Palace, and at RADA. Martha has been inspiration and like another mother to Lorna Blackman the drama teacher of The Stylisters and Big peoples theatre. Martha would always dance at productions at Hackney Empire even though she not them. She visited many productions including The Brothers, Oliver Samuels, Forty, and Funny Black women. Martha was an active drama teacher helping Lorna to cope with the pressures of training the young people for their performance and exams.. She inspired thousands of people and children. Martha will not be miss as her words of LOVE and BLESSMENT will always live on in peoples hearts.
