Napoleon Noir
The new play, Napoleon Noir, and the charity, United Haitians in the United Kingdom have agreed to work together to raise awareness of the history and importance of Haiti on the world stage and actively to support investment 'in our children today for a better tomorrow'.
"This story, this play, brings to life the vital work that UHUK does for children in Haiti." The Stage Company and UHUK are holding a Press Night and performance of Napoleon Noir at the LOST Theatre on Friday 21st May 2010 at 7.30 p.m. This presents an opportunity to experience a vibrant, powerful new play and also to meet with representatives of the UHUK committee and the Stage Company to understand the story and the connections.
The play Napoleon Noir, written by Marcus Heath with music by Duncan Atkins-Walsh and Iain Storey, is an exhilarating exploration of the life of one of history's forgotten black heroes - Toussaint L’Ouverture, the Haitian revolutionary, who realizes a brief but triumphant moment of freedom for his enslaved people at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The cast includes the Mighty Zulu Nation Theatre Company who are recognized by education authorities for providing valuable inter-active, multi-cultural experiences for children across the UK.
The main goal of United Haitians in the United Kingdom is to make a positive contribution in the development of Haiti, and to keep the Haitian culture alive in the United Kingdom.
The story of Haiti is one of the world's best kept secrets. The sacrifices Toussaint made for his children was the start of the work we must and need to continue today.
