NORMAN JAY
Another Carnival is over, and itzcaribbean.com catches up with 'Good Times', Norman Jay MBE.
  Norman Jay - 2006

DJ Norman Jay

How was Carnival 2006 for you?
It eclipsed everything we’ve done before, it was fantastic.

You have been a part of Notting Hill Carnival for years now. Explain the Good Times sound system philosophy - What experience do you like people to take away with them
The philosophy for Carnival and the Sound System is to leave your attitude at home and always bring a smile, so you have the feeling that it has been the best day of your life.

Which year has been your most memorable so far?
These last two years. Last year was special being the 25th anniversary, this year we were worried about reaching the same degree as last year but in the end we surpassed 2005 in terms of expectations.

How do you see the future for Notting Hill Carnival?
I don’t know, you need to ask Nostradamus! I just hope everyone’s fit and well and will return to the same place same time next year.

Tell us more about your musical style and influences.
I don’t have any influences and my musical style is all about the party, celebrating feel-good records, of all genres. Good Times 6 this years offering is a mix of styles, once again.

What is the most important part of getting that perfect summer soundtrack?
If I new the answer to that I’d be selling a million albums. Lol

Although you hail from Notting Hill, you have been DJing all over the world, which are your favourite destinations.
It would probably be Tokyo, New York, Antigua and Shanghai - they are all so different and great in their own way.

So what’s next, any up coming projects in the pipeline?
To hopefully do my own festival - Good Times in the park and the release of Good Times 7.

Norman Jay MBE presents Good Times 6 is out now on Resist Music.
