The August Bank Holiday, 2009, will be the 45th Notting Hill Carnival.
Join Carnival celebrations, and don't miss Panorama, the Calypso Tent and other Carnival events.
Starting in July, Carnival is a season of activities that celebrate the five carnival art disciplines; masquerade bands, steel bands, calypso music, static and mobile sound systems.
Calypso Tent
The five-week annual pre-Carnival spectacular! A showcase of rich talent of British based Calypsonians. The 'Tent' is open every Friday until the 28th August 2009.
Doors open at 7:00pm

Grand Carnival Costume Splash Children's Day

The Grand Carnival Splash is an event that demonstrates the art of the Mas Band, Costume-making and brings the Caribbean Carnival experience to Alexandra Palace. Come and enjoy 2 days of vibrant Carnival celebrations fusing Costume, Calypso, Pan and Caribbean cuisine.

Panorama
31st National Panorama Championship
|
Eight of the UK's top steelbands, each comprising of between 40 and 75 musicians, compete for the title 'National Champions of Steel'. There will also be a variety of stage and family activities.
Location: Hyde Park (near Speaker’s Corner), Marble Arch, London W1. Time: 5.00pm to 9.00pm.

J'Ouvert
Steelbands participate in a procession to mark the official opening of the 2009 Notting Hill Carnival. Revellers daub paint and mud on themselves as a traditional way of driving away demons.
Location: Ladbroke Grove Road Meet by Sainsburys at the top of Ladbroke grove between 5:30 - 6:00am and get ready to get dutty! Time: 6am - 10am

Europe's biggest celebration of music, movement and masquerade. Active participation from young people is encouraged. On the Road Junior Costume Competition (several categories including King, Queen and Best Band)

Carnival Monday is one of Europe largest street events. The UK's leading Steel bands, Mas bands, Soca on the Move Sound Systems make up the parade.

Venue: Notting Hill - main Carnival route parade. 10am-9pm.

GETTING TO NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL
Tube: Central Line - Notting Hill Gate
Bus Routes: 23, 27, 28, 31, 52, 328 Tube and bus connections to Bayswater, Queensway and Westbourne Park, aswell as the rest of London are convenient. Paddington station is nearby for those needing a direct rail link, or the Heathrow Express, arriving every 15 minutes from the Airport.
