If you've never been or heard of
Rae-Town, Family Strong and RCN promotions are hosting a
Rae - Town style bash to give you a taste! To be launched on the 15/4/07, 9pm - 1am. The aim of the fortnightly dance is to provide music lovers of the yesteryear a night in which good vibes and great music are promised whilst raising awareness and money for the sickle cell society.
The
sickle cell society based in North London, provides information, counselling and care for those with sickle cell disorders and their families. The Sickle Cell trait is found in 1 in 10 Africans and Afro- Caribbean's.
The idea to launch the Rae-Town style bash was that of DJ Little Lee of Platinum 87.5 F.M based on his love for the classic music of the yesteryear, and the wish to support a real community led charity.
Rae town dances originated in the seaside community in down town Kingston, Jamaica. The 3,000 strong community has since been known both for its love of music and its fish. The long running
community dance was at its heights in the 1980's. The event back then was known as being a very colourful affair where people made an effort in the dress stakes, ensuring Clark's shoes and diamond socks were mandatory. Keeping the night truly authentic Caribbean restaurant and bar owner of The Xperience and fellow organiser Charlotte Barrett will ensure
traditional Caribbean food is available offering favourites such as curried goat, white rice and fish.
This event will host many of the original elements of Rae-town that makes the dance well renowned and the organisers promise to bring exciting new elements to the night too.
"We want to see people of all ages enjoying themselves, Rae-town is for anyone who wants enjoy good music in good company" States Lee. The Rae town style party is to be held on Sundays true to its original week day at
Victory Nightclub, Southall, however it will end at a decent hour for those who need to get to work Monday Morning.
Proceeds will be given to
Sickle Cell Society every fortnight via entry fees, raffles supported by sponsors and donations. We require the communities support to come to this night with a difference, to make a difference.
Sponsors this month are: Jet Star Records, The Xperience Restaurant, Apollo Self Drive, Platinum FM & Beat FM.
