Visions of Dennis Brown and African Dub All Mighty Chapters 1-4

Joe Gibbs Reunites with Dennis Brown & The Professionals "17 North Parade re-issues the classic "Visions of Dennis Brown" and "African Dub All Mighty Chapters 1-4"

On October 23, 2007, vintage reggae imprint 17 North Parade re-released Dennis Brown's classic roots album "Visions of Dennis Brown" and the innovative dub collection "African Dub All Mighty- Chapters 1-4". Celebrating the music recorded at the studio of legendary reggae producer Joe Gibbs, all are being re-released as part of the imprint’s Reggae Rewind series.

Undoubtedly one of Dennis Brown's best studio albums, "Visions..." is the biggest record of his solo career and helped to establish Joe Gibbs Studio as a dominant recording house of the 1970's. Featuring a collection of material that have come to define the sound of roots reggae, the album finds Jamaica's leading musicians providing the backdrop for such hits as "Malcolm X" and "Deliverance Will Come". As part of the Reggae Rewind series, listeners will be delighted to hear special extended versions of songs such as "Love Me Always," "Stay At Home", "Say What You Say", and "Repatriation".

"African Dub All Mighty - Chapters 1-4", finds Gibbs and his collective of studio musicians known as "The Professionals" (including: Sly Dunbar, Lloyd Parks, Bobby Ellis and Tommy McCook) revisiting the classic rhythms of the legendary Studio One and Treasure Isle labels. Masterfully engineered by Errol Thompson, each album encapsulates the rhythms and melodies of the late 60's and 70's, updated in a 'rockers' style.

This period is widely considered by most to represent reggae's finest decade, and Thompson's then new and innovative engineering techniques have been equally credited for popularizing dub and propelling the mystifying genre to new heights. The progression can be heard throughout the album in his use of obscure sound effects on songs like "My Best Dub", "African Dub", "Lime Key Rock" and "Angola Crisis", a remake of "I'm Still In Love" by Alton Ellis that would be sampled by Sean Paul and featured on his Grammy Award winning album "Dutty Rock".
