Scoobie Santino R.I.P
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a murder in Greenford.
Police were called at 08:54 on Sunday 22 March to the body of a man found in a pedestrian underpass at the Greenford roundabout.
Ian Newtion (correct spelling - pronounced New-shun) (14/1/64 - 45 ys) was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ian, aka
Scoobie Santino, was a singer and delivery driver from Fulham with a 21-year-old daughter. A post-mortem gave cause of death as injury to the throat.
An incident room has opened at Hendon under DCI Nicky Wall (HSCC).
Ian, who had a
hit single 'Money Honey' in the 1990's, had left a nearby venue in Rockware Avenue - known locally as the 'Scout Hut' - where he had been singing at a party. It is unclear at this stage what time he left but it is believed he was making his way home when he was assaulted and received a severe cut to the neck.
An item of interest in respect of a weapon was found at the scene (we are not prepared to discuss further at present).
Were you in the area around 08:00 that morning? Did you see anything or anyone suspicious?
Do you know why Ian Newtion was walking through that underpass or what time he got there?
Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have information to assist the enquiry or help us build up a picture of Ian's movements that night.
No motive has yet been established for the murder.
We now know that Ian left the event in Rockware Aveneue at approx 07.45hrs and walked down to the underpass where he was assaulted. The suspect/s may have sustained an injury themselves during the altercation.
We are very keen to speak to anyone who was around the Greenford Roundabout between 07.55hrs and 08.50hrs and saw or heard anything suspicious, or anyone who saw an injured person/s in the vicinity.
We also want to know if you are aware of someone who has come home on Mothering Sunday with unexplained injuries and acting unusually.
If you saw Ian leave the party in Rockware Avenue detectives would also like to speak to you.
DI Lee Presland of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said:
"Ian was a lovely, gentle man who was very popular with a huge circle of friends and fans. When confronted by his assaliant/s he would not have put up a fight and that is what makes his death even more tragic, he was killed needlessly and it is important we catch those responsible."
Anyone with any information should contact the incident room on 020 8358 0400; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
