SOCA About Soca Music
Soca music is a high energy up tempo style of music inspired by Calypso originating in the Caribbean, and has been recognised along with Reggae as the most popular form of Caribbean music. Generally, less lyrical than traditional Calypso, Soca focuses on good times rather than the bad. Soca reached its current form by the early 1970's and grew in popularity during the 1980’s, with a chart hit ‘Hot Hot Hot’ by Arrow, one of the Caribbeans most progressive Soca artists.

Most consider Lord Shorty I, a.k.a.Garfield Blackman a.k.a. Lord Shorty, the father of Soca. Experimenting with the Calypso rhythm for many years he rose to fame in 1963 with his version of ‘Cloak and Dagger’, and gave us his hit album, Endless Vibrations in 1974. Since then Soca has been going from strength to strength producing a string of hits each year.
