Steel Bands / Pannists in Trinidad and Tobago

Desperadoes (Laventille) Desperadoes are recognized internationally as the premier institution and a symbol of pure excellence in the world of steelband entertainment. Based in the community of Laventille, Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, the band was originally known as the 'Laventille Band'. The name changed in the 1940's to the 'Dead End Kids'. Subsequently, three Laventille bands merged in the 1950's to form the Desperadoes.

Exodus Exodus Steel Orchestra was formed on the 3rd May 1981. The band emerged from Gay Flamingoes, another one of the country's local steelband.

Invaders (Woodbrook, Port of Spain) founded in 1940 by Ellie Mannette, Invaders is one of the world's oldest Steelbands, and has performed at every single Panorama Competition (Trinidad) since the competition's inception in 1963.

Silver Stars (St. James) were 2009's National Panorama Champions.

Skiffle Bunch (San Fernando) Since 1977, The TCL Skiffle Bunch Steel Orchestra has been the leader among Traditional or 'Pan Around the Neck' groups in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1993, having matured through this rewarding and illustrious apprenticeship,they donned Conventional Band Status and have sincechallenged the very best in that category.

Trinidad All Stars (East Port of Spain) Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars developed between the First & Second World Wars, are possibly Trinidad's oldest surviving steelband. In 1982 the contributions of Trinidad All Stars to the steelband movement were recognised by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago with the presentation of a national award - the Humming Bird Medal (Gold).

Gills Pan Shop (Trinidad) Merlin "mutt" Gill has operated GILL'S STEELPAN SHOP for the last 10 years. He has been involved in the pan industry for the past 50 years. Gill's intimate knowledge of the pan has been garnered from his years as both a player and an arranger. National Panorama Steel Pan Semis & Finals The National Instrument Queen's Park Savannah Port of Spain, TT

Pan Ramajay (Trinidad) Pan Ramajay is an annual festival introduced in 1989 by the Exodus Steel Orchestra.

The Trinidad and Tobago SteelPan and Jazz Festival (Formerly Pan Royale) hosted by the Queen's Royal College Foundation of Trinidad. Steel pan workshops are combined with live performances of mainstream, avant-garde and fusion jazz. Featuring steel pan bands of all sizes, traditional jazz combos and vocalists from around the world. The festival is usually held in October of each year.

Montreal International Steelpan Festival June 26th - 27th 2010.(Canada) Artists and steelbands from around the world compete against one another and offer outdoor Calypso-Soca, Reggae, Jazz and pop performances. Whether you are familiar with the dynamic percussive musical expression of the Steelpan or just curious about the art form, you are certain to enjoy this festival.
