What's Hot Soca
Time is flying and it has already nearly been two months since Trinidad Carnival. I believe I can speak for the majority when I say it was Fantastic. One of the highlights were the Soca Monarch Finals, it was amazing to see Hasley Crawford Stadium very nearly full to capacity. The stadium held around 50 000 people, waving, wining and chanting for their favourites. The heat was on when it was time for the Power Soca Monarch as the best of the best took the stage pulling their best tricks out of their sleeves.
The week of the Soca Monarch Finals, the media did their best to stir up a war between two of the expected crown takers, Bunji Garlin and Machel Montano. Bunji Garlin made it clear on twitter that the things they had said in the newspapers about his words towards Machel Montano were untrue. Machel Montano clearly believed all he had read and came out on stage that night and freestyled about Destra Garcia, Iwer George, Bunji Garlin and his wife Fay-anne Lyons Alvarez. A lot of people were shocked by his lyrics and were surprised he started a freestyle war with the freestyle king Bunji.
The crowd was certainly entertained by the artistes and enjoyed the controversial banter. At the end of the competition the man of the night was the 2million dollar man Mr Machel Montano, Iwer placed second, Bunji came third and Fay-anne placed forth. Groovy Soca monarch was a lot less complicated everyone had their favourites and the people seemed quite happy about the result. Kes the band took the Groovy title and the runner up was Bejai with his song Trini which was definitely one of the favourites to win. Destra placed third and Blaxx came forth.
The season was no doubt a Great one and we are already looking forward to next year!
