SXSW British Reggae showcase

SXSW British Reggae showcase

Bringing together some of the most exciting and critically acclaimed artists in UK reggae and its hinterland, 'Bass Culture - The Influence of Reggae on British Music' is a unique showcasing campaign heading to South by South West, the world's biggest new music festival held in Austin, Texas from March 14th to 19th.

Prior to the Stateside appearance new music event Roundhouse Rising will host a London preview of the showcase on Saturday 11th February featuring live sets from Rasites, Natty and Lady Leshurr, three of the artists on the SxSW bill. The London show will be hosted by Ras Kwame (Orange Hill / Electrobashy Recs).

As part of the Roundhouse Rising programme on Wednesday 15th February Mykaell Riley hosts 'Bass Culture - The Influence of Reggae on British Music', a panel exploring the journey of reggae from Jamaica to the UK and how it has contributed to the development of such styles as Jungle/Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Grime, UK Hip Hop and mainstream pop. Panellists include Robbo Ranx (BBC 1xtra, Mikey Dread (Channel One Sound System), Curtis Lynch (Producer and label founder Necessary Mayhem) and Leanna (artist). Graphic artist Swifty and journalist Paul Bradshaw will also preview their new exhibition of posters, photographs, art and reggae memorabilia during the panel discussion.

The showcase campaign is produced by British Underground in partnership with Punch Records and Blue Lotus Music Group with the support of Arts Council England.

Crispin Parry, MD of British Underground says "There is a tangible resurgence of interest in reggae and its influence can be felt in new musical styles from grime to dub-step. Taking this great showcase and panel package to SxSW, the world's most important new music festival, gives us an opportunity to focus on the talent re-energizing the genre and celebrate British reggae with a global audience. Roundhouse Rising is the perfect place to set off on this journey."
