Jamaican Diaspora Convention 2011

The fourth biennial Jamaican Diaspora Convention, will be held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, in Ocho Rios from June 15 to 17. Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the 2011 Convention will be held under the theme: One Nation: Jamaica and its Diaspora in Partnership.

Jamaica to host Biennial Diaspora Convention in June, 2011

Jamaicans from across the Diaspora, spanning Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and other regions of the world, including a delegation of local nationals, will come together from June 15 to 17 for the fourth biennial Jamaican Diaspora Convention, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The 2011 Convention will be held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, in Ocho Rios, under the theme: One Nation: Jamaica and its Diaspora in Partnership.

The Honourable Orette Bruce Golding, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica will be the guest speaker at the Opening Ceremony. At the same time, a much anticipated event will be the Governor General’s Diaspora Awards, which will be presented by the Governor General, H.E the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, ON GCMG, CD.

Important topics for this year’s Convention include, among other things: Diaspora/Jamaica Partnership for Development through Education Transformation and Healthcare for Jamaicans at home and abroad.

Additionally, the Convention will provide an opportunity for the Diaspora community to engage in direct dialogue with the new minister with responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, Senator the Honourable Marlene Malahoo Forte, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

This Convention follows in the rich tradition of collaboration and partnership and will benefit from the contributions and sponsorship from several private sector companies, Government and non-governmental organizations.
