Nottingham, 7-16 September 2012.
World Event Young Artists, the first event of its kind, will bring together 1,000 artists from 120 nations for a 10-day cultural festival in Nottingham, from 7-16 September 2012.
This unprecedented showcase of artistic talent from across the globe will be a finale to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in the East Midlands. A public festival programme will take place across 30 world class arts venues and alternative spaces in Nottingham, bringing the city to life with creative activity.
Artists from around the world, aged 18-30, who practice a wide variety of art forms - from music, dance, theatre and spoken word to film, visual art and gastronomic events – have been invited to submit their ideas for collaboration, participation and performance at the event. 1,000 successful applicants will be announced in March 2012, as chosen by an expert selection panel comprising curators, practitioners and programmers from a range of UK arts venues as well as from across the globe.
Akram Khan, choreographer, director, dancer and World Event Young Artists Champion, comments: "Bringing together these art forms from so many countries is exciting and will inspire some extraordinary creative collaborations. 'True collaboration' can only happen between different people, it cannot happen from identical twins. WEYA is a fantastic opportunity for young artists from all over the world to showcase their work on an international platform - and to show the world just how much new creative talent there is in the UK."
World Event Young Artists is hosted by UK Young Artists and builds on the success of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, celebrating the creativity of young artists.
