Pomedy Comes to Britain
Whether as a recording artiste, edutainer, author or teacher, Yasus Afari is always breaking new ground. The dub poet stays true to form with his latest venture by bringing his popular Pomedy series to Britain.
Straight from Jamaica this very successful show is touring in the UK in Autumn 2011 and during 2012. The POMEDY SHOW will be touring in Jamaica as part of the JCDC 50th Anniversary Programme, and is also touring in the Jamaican Diaspora as part of the build up to and celebration of Jamaica's 50th Anniversary of Independence.
Yasus Afari is excited about performing again in Britain.
"There's an historical link between the two countries. England has played a pivotal role in Jamaican history but Jamaicans have also taught the
British people a lot," he said.
The Pomedy series started at Yasus' alma mater, St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), in his home parish of St. Elizabeth, affectionately called St Bess. The Pomedy Show was again staged at STETHS in June of this year as the signature event of the school's Golden anniversary celebrations. This very successful staging of The Pomedy Show featured Ity and Fancy Cat, Yasus Afari and Joan Andrea Hutchinson among others. The proceeds of both events benefited STETHS in the form of computers, printers ad cash donations.
