YolanDa Brown
YolanDa Brown UK's premier saxophonist

YolanDa Brown

YolanDa Brown is considered by many to be one of a kind and is as passionate re-interpreting a current chart-topper, as she is reprising a Jazz standard or launching into an original composition. She is a one-off, very much a woman of her time. As much entrepreneur as she is musician, as much gifted singer-songwriter as she is the UK's premier saxophonist.

She released two acclaimed EP's, entitled 'Finding My Voice' and 'A Step Closer' as well as a DVD of her sold out debut concert filmed at the Mermaid Theatre London in July 2007. Late 2008, she toured the UK, opening for The Temptations. This culminated in her being invited to perform in the line-up as the '6th Tempt' featuring on the encore number of their last show and sharing the final bow.

YolanDa, who was the first female saxophonist to be nominated for a MOBO, said: "I am so thrilled to have won Best Jazz category at the MOBO Awards and been nominated Best Jazz at the Urban Music Awards2008! It has been an amazing year and this is just the beginning of the journey."

"Bright young saxophone talent - sounding somewhere between Stan Getz and Courtney Pine (minus the showboating chops) - Brown's music is an accessible mix of classic jazz tones with a twist of R&B and funk. Something of an unusual 'crossover' star in the making (she's not a singer for starters)" -- Time Out

After several years on the world's jazz circuits, she is now poised to release her debut album, April Showers, May Flowers- out Feb 13th 2012 on Black Grape Records.

YolanDa's debut album will surely see her cult reputation brought to the fore. April Showers, May Flowers is a beautifully sculpted record that touches lightly on jazz and soul and R&B, each track bestowed with the kind of lyrical insight - on love, on life - that suggests its author is something of a poet, too. It is an album of effortless unfurling grace and impeccable soulful poise, featuring 8 Saxophone tracks and for the first time 2 vocal tracks (Bitter Sweet and Without You) on which YolanDa showcases her beautiful voice.
