Sunday 3rd November Christopher Columbus sighted the island naming it Dominga.
1627
Dominica is claimed by France.
1763
The French in the Peace of Paris, officially cede Dominica to Britain.
1782
The Battle of the Saintes between the British and French
1784
The Treaty of Versailles, control of Dominica returns to the British.
1947
Autonomy from Britain was granted in 1947
1834
The Abolition of Slavery Act of 1833, becomes law in Dominica on August 1st.
1838
Black majority in the Dominican House of Assembly
1903
The British formally grant 3,700 acres of common land to the Caribs.
1930
The Carib territory revolt
1978
The Independence Constitution, is official on 3rd November
