498 Christopher Columbus sights Grenada.

1650

1650 Du Parquet arrives and settles successfully on the island

1763

1763 Grenada ceded to the British under the Treaty of Paris

1779

The French re-capture the island

1783

1783 The island is handed back and permanently ceded to the British under the Treaty of Versailles.

1795

The ‘The Fedon Rebellion’

1951

Grenada Manual and Metal Workers’ Union strike, led by Gairy.

1974

1974 Full independence granted on February 7, 1974.

1979

March 13th, Bishop seized power from Gairy in bloodless coup

1983

Coard overthrows Bishop in a coup d’etat
