New Terminal At Punta Cana International Airport
Grupo Puntacana celebrates the inauguration of the new terminal at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ)
With the expansion, PUJ is projected to be the largest airport hub in the Caribbean Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), the leading destination for travel in the Dominican Republic and currently, the second largest airport hub in the Caribbean, will begin operations November 1st, 2014 of its second independent terminal, designated Terminal B accommodating 6,500 passengers daily.
With a capacity of handling more than two million passengers annually, Terminal B will set a new precedent in distinction for the Caribbean tourism industry and air transportation in the country. Frank Rainieri co-founder of Grupo Puntacana said, “From conception to development, the new structure has been a labor of love and great anticipation for Grupo Puntacana and our valued guests of Puntacana Resort & Club. Our goals are to expand our air capacity and passenger ease to the region, while our mission remains deeply rooted in sustainability and energy savings throughout the facility.”
The 33,000 square meters sustainable structure will have two passenger levels and a third level mezzanine for airline offices with LED lights in order to reduce energy consumption. The Passenger Departure Area will have fifty check-in counters, an air-conditioned concourse equipped with seven jet bridges, an associated parking apron and nine departure gates. In the terminal, passengers will find a food court, a modern VIP lounge, duty free stores, Champagne Bar, kid’s playground and a Designated Smoking Area. Passengers will have access to Wi-Fi internet connection and a recharging area for electronic equipment in designated areas of the terminal.
Located less than 10 minutes from Puntacana Resort & Club, PUJ is strategically designed to ensure that the guest experience is undisturbed by air traffic or noise and guests are able to enjoy the peaceful, natural beauty of the area, while benefiting from the airport’s close proximity. VIP services can be arranged for passengers to be greeted planeside, whisked through security, arriving quickly to their final destination. For departure, VIP escorts will take passengers through check-in process; security and immigration expedite line, and then delivered to a private lounge until their boarding flight time.
