Launch of the African & African Caribbean Design Diaspora (AACDD)

The African & African Caribbean Design Diaspora (AACDD) will be launched in London, on 26th of September 2010, with start-up initiatives in Dalston and Brixton, the City and Bankside. It is a three year initiative organized by The British European Design Group (BEDG) in partnership with the London Design Festival, and funded by the Arts Council of England. We will be showcasing the plethora of creativity from the Diaspora, to new audiences worldwide…

20-25th September: Black Design in Dalston Market

If you are from the African & African Caribbean Diaspora, and are passionate about design, come to visit our stall at Ridley Road Market Dalston between 10am and 5pm from 20th -25th of September . Bring samples of your work for possible inclusion in a London wide exhibition. For more information and an online nomination form visit www.aacdd.org/scout.

18 -24 September: P2C (Palette to Chair) Furniture Competition at Dalston Garden
If you are from the African & African Caribbean Diaspora, and between the ages of 10 – 18 years old, come to Dalston Eastern Curve Garden in Dalston Lane between 11am and 5pm on any day between 18th to 24th of September inclusive and enter the P2C Furniture competition.

You will be given a wooden palette, and be shown how to turn your palette into a chair. Decorate the chair in whatever way you wish and submit the final product for the competition. Please note, that participants under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

26 September: Dalston Garden Launch Come and celebrate the extraordinary talent of designers from the African & African Caribbean Diaspora on Sunday 26th September at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, Dalston Lane from 6pm – 9pm with exotic food & drink, African tango, live music and performance.

1 October : Brixton Village Show A curated exhibition of selected works submitted by designers to the Dalston Market stall will be shown in leading venues across London, as well as featuring on the AACDD website. We will be celebrating the opening of this exhibition and design excellence at Brixton Village on 1st October 2010. www.aacdd.org/show
