Miss Caribbean UK 2015 GOES NATIONAL!!

2015 will see the crowning of a new host of contestants competing for the title of the UK’s Queen of the Caribbean. Miss Caribbean United Kingdom (MCUK) adds to the richness in diversity offered in the UK, as it attracts Caribbean and non-Caribbean alike, keen to enjoy the tropical mix of colour, fashion, dance, gastronomy, music, culture and edutainment.

Among the list of reasons for putting the event on MCUK organisers Clayton and Jacqui Brown state: “It was established to be a grand finale showcase for as many of the individual Caribbean countries’ pageant winners to compete for the overall crown as Miss Caribbean UK.”

Positively promoting different Caribbean countries under one umbrella, the event uses pageantry to unify, inspire, educate, entertain and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean within the United Kingdom. Added, MCUK seeks to address social issues by empowering the next generation to think beyond the physical, whilst encouraging and unearthing new and existing talents. This will work towards increases the numbers of diverse participation and representation in the arts such as theatre, dance, fashion, media, journalism, TV and film – both in front of and behind the camera.

Last year’s inaugural event held at Notting Hill’s heritage site ‘The Tabernacle’, saw Keeleigh Griffith, representing Barbados, come through the different stages of the pageant to be crowned the winner. Winning Miss Caribbean UK allows for great exposure and support in the winner’s career aspirations via hitting red carpets, attending special events, backstage networking, guest public appearances, interviews, photo shoots, work experience opportunities and mentoring support. Travel opportunities are also on offer with Keeleigh scheduled to visit Crop-Over Festival in Barbados this summer on behalf of the tourist board.

This year will see increased marketing opportunities for sponsors, supporters and media partners with an extended and more relentless marketing campaign from May to December that will touch London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Luton, Reading, Bristol, Derby, Oxford, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle, Leicester, Leeds, Cardiff, Newport, Coventry, Dublin and Belfast.

With more promotion, bigger prizes and more opportunities for those who finish first, second and third; 2015 has already seen many more applicants. For example, we will be collaborating with the carnival Mas Band “MaKing Carnival” (formally “Isis Mas Band”) at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival where our contestants will be on their VIP float promoting the pageant.

Regional heats will take place from July to September.

The Heats are open to all who fulfill the selection criteria. The first heat will be in MANCHESTER on Saturday 11th July 2015 at Aura bar & Lounge, 31 Withy Grove, Manchester, M4 2BJ.

The Miss Caribbean United Kingdom Grand Finals will be held at:
The Shaw Theatre, 100 -110 Euston Road, London, England, NW1 2AJ
Date: Saturday 5th December 2015
Time: Reception: 5.30pm – 6.45pm
Main Show: 7.00pm – 11.00pm

The MCUK contestants are to be judged on the night for all round ability to represent culture and vitality by performing as part of a carnival masquerade band; effectively modelling traditional clothing, evening and sportswear with high-end fashion on the runway; demonstrating historical and cultural knowledge of different Caribbean countries; demonstrating public speaking and hidden talents.
