National Hair Champion Marcia Johnson Still Number One

Rougz Hair Award

Creative Stylist Spinning around with Success

PROLIFIC national hair champion Marcia Johnson has proved she’s still number one in her industry, nine years after she won her first award as a hairdressing student at the College of North West London.

Mother of two Marcia from Harlesden runs her own salon, Rougz Hair & Beauty on the Finchley Road in Hampstead, but still finds time to enter and win competitions – and her latest creation has gained her first place as the Sensational icon Avant Garde stylist of the year, and second place for Stop Watch Stylist 2011 category at the Afro Hair and Beauty Live 2011 awards.

This year the event was held at the Business Design Centre in Islington where entrants were required to create a brilliant hair style on stage in 15 minutes, which is a real test of a stylist’s skill.

Assisted by her three elegant models for the avantgarde category, Heather, Coco and Sylvia, Marcia chose Kylie Minogue’s burlesque Show Girl Tour as her winning entry.

Last year at the same show, Marcia also won first place for stop watch stylist with a Retro Punk themed haircut in black and gold incorporating short back and sides and spikes on top. She also won Stop Watch Stylist in 2007 and was placed second in 2002, 2005 and 2008 and for avantgarde was placed 3rd place in 2007 2nd place 2008 and the winner in 2009 and 2011

Marcia has shown incredible ability to consistently produce high quality hair styles, which are creative and different each year.

A former student of the CNWL hair & beauty salon at Wembley Park, Marcia is the most successful hairdressing award winner the College has ever produced. Her latest win is her seventh first place win in four years – alongside many second and third awards.

Asked the secret to her success, Marcia said: “I have always had a creative mind, and I always want to produce something different and unique year on year. I am passionate about what I do, am very competitive, but ultimately have to put in a lot of hard work to achieve it. The course I took at the College helped me follow my dream and turn it into a reality, and for that I am forever grateful. ”
