FFBJ echo the sentiments of Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports Hon. Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange who described world record performance by Usain Bolt at the Beijing Olympics as phenomenal and declared that the sprinter had ignited the passions of the Jamaican people by delivering the elusive gong.

Minister Grange had also words of encouragement for Jamaica’s former world record holder, Asafa Powell, who finished down the track in fifth place in 9.95 seconds. She told him: “I know you are disappointed but you have done Jamaica proud over the years and we will always salute you. It is never easy when you don’t meet your own expectations but we are still solidly behind you because you have proven yourself time and again.”

She congratulated Michael Frater who finished in sixth place with a personal best time of 9.97 seconds.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding reaction has sparked excitement for a massive party in Jamaica as he has promised a massive welcome home celebration for Jamaica’s first gold medalist in the Beijing Olympics, Usain Bolt, and the rest of the Olympic Team.

Mr. Golding was bursting with pride and joy following this morning’s (Aug 16) victory by Usain Bolt in the men’s 100m finals in the world record time of 9.69, in the Beijing Olympics in China.

“It’s a wonderful day for Jamaica and you have done us proud. It was a stunning performance and we are so proud of you”, Mr. Golding told Usain Bolt in a telephone conversation just minutes after his victory in the 100m race. “The games are not yet over and we expect a lot more from the team in the days ahead but I can assure you that we are planning a massive welcome home party for all of you”, Mr. Golding assured.

Finally, FFBJ sees Bolt achievements as capturing and epitomizing the essence of Jamaica and Jamaicans; A country and people resilient in adversary and even when the odds are against us. Again an opportunity has presented itself to us as a people to capitalize on this moment and seize the day in showing positive attitudes, positive love respect and turning away from all negative factors and to aim in achieving such a mindset first in 9.69seconds.
